NeighborWorks® Columbus believes that:
- All residents have the right to access safe and affordable housing.
- Elders have the right to age in place, with dignity, in a safe, fit, and affordable home.
- Families have the right to raise their children in a safe neighborhood.
These beliefs, along with our mission, vision, and values, guide the board of directors in establishing the organizational goals that direct NeighborWorks® Columbus’s operations each year. Each department develops specific strategies and action items to ensure success, and department managers are accountable for implementing these strategies, as assigned by the President and CEO.
Through its four core lines of business—housing development, neighborhood revitalization, homeowner education, counseling, and lending—NeighborWorks® Columbus has developed various programs and services that align with its core beliefs and mission.
More than 60 years after the signing of The Housing Act of 1949, NeighborWorks® Columbus recognizes that the promise of a “decent home and a suitable living environment for every American family” remains at the heart of the American Dream. Unfortunately, this dream is still out of reach for too many families and elderly residents living in homes that lack basic and necessary amenities.
Additionally, eight years after the collapse of the housing market, NeighborWorks® Columbus acknowledges that homeownership may not be accessible for all families seeking affordable housing. The organization remains flexible to respond to the diverse housing needs of our community.
NeighborWorks® Columbus advocates that quality of life in a community begins with safe, fit, and affordable housing as its foundation. Through housing production, NeighborWorks® Columbus helps stabilize and strengthen our historic neighborhoods and the community as a whole.
